Amour to you JOG!

I received a blog comment from "Japanese Orange Girl" (JOG) today. It was left for a post I had made on July 10th and it has to do with this symbol I add to the bottom of my posts sometimes.

So anyway... I'm gonna share with you what she wrote because I thought it was very cool of her to leave a comment (I hope you don't mind JOG?)

She had to use a translation site I think...because I don't understand it to well, but as far as I can tell she started reading my blog waaaaay back when I first started over a year ago because that's when I did these

glass magnets that she's referring to. (of course I could be totally wrong) Anyway she describes how this Amour symbol translates in Japanese...neat huh? Thank you for visiting my blog! ---and don't be sorry! :)

--------------------------------------------------------
"Hello. This is the first time that it talks to you.
I am a Japanese. It lives in Tokyo. The small miscellaneous-goods store is run on its own account.
Since the design of the magnet the glass's and your WebSite is great, it is sometimes looking in at this.
There is a translation in having written the message here today.
One has noticed the character "love" being different for a while.
The character "heart" is used for "love" in Japanese.(japanese:[kokoro])
Is it a "friend" if it is the thing currently written here?
Although it thought that it was meddlesome, in Japanese, "love" is called "true heart" and "love" is called "bottom heart."
Although the "bottom heart" is not not much good language.
Since I felt that it got interested in this talk if it was you, it left the message.
Then, I am sorry now.
see you!"

------------------------------------------------

Wasn't that neat?

Ok, my day today? Well, it's gonna be the quest for a store that sells my particular vacuum cleaner bags...yes, exciting I know. (I have an Oreck, does anyone know? Macy's maybe?) So anyway, I will do that as well as go to our storage unit to dump more stuff off, paint a little, water and prune some plants, wash the car, get some more art cards printed out, maybe list some card sets on Ebay, hopefully do some laundry later and that's pretty much it for my exciting Saturday....all I really care about accomplishing is finding the vacuum cleaner bags though :P~

So...Tell me about your day?

Bye!

ToyRoom Gallery

Now that I’ve finished Andreas painting...I can breath a little bit. On my “art plate” next is your commission Ray as well as a painting that I will be doing for the next W.A.S.H. art Show it will be the 26th Annual Open Exhibition 2004 "Transitions in Fall" The judge is Jan Kunz.

Did I tell you guys I got a call from the gal at W.A.S.H. saying they wanted my Award Ribbon back? (from the last show) They sent me the wrong one...yes, they are demoting me from Award of Excellence to Merit Award...:(---tis’okie with me...I knew I got the Merit Award, but wasn’t going to argue with the ribbon they sent! :P

Then I finally have a chance to show you the nice postcard I got from Tracy. She went to France with her daughter a few weeks ago and sent me this PC to rub it in that I'll prolly never go there... (jk!!! I asked her to send me one---so I could plaster it on my “Bulletin Board O’Lolo.”) My frig is just as bad.

Wanna read it?

Geez!!! (spooky) a second ago I heard a bunch of loud firework type noises and went outside to see what was happening...I couldn't see anything...but just now when I was outside I noticed 4 police cars blocking the streets...I guess it was a drive by shooting! I've gotta remember not to run merrily outside anymore, I kinda forget this neighborhood at work is yukie. :(

Yesterday at lunch I drove past the ToyRoom Gallery. It's just this garage that is located in an alley But anyway, I haven't ever managed to get to a second saturday art show opening there...but this next month (the 14th) I hope to. Here's a few pictures of it. It's suppose to be a pretty popular place to show your art. Here's a blurb about the gallery that I grabbed from their website:

"WHY TOYROOM ?
The Toyroom Gallery is a partnership between John Soldano and Craig Maclaine, to bring affordable, funky street based art to the market place, cause we love Art with Hotrods, Skateboards, Punk Rock, Monsters, Tattoo Art and all the stuff makes life less boring, besides what else are you going to do with and empty garage...Right !? As for the name, we were hanging our first show, by Artist Robert Gordon we we didn't have a name,Robert gave us a piece called TOY ROOM so and decided to adopt the name, the rest is history."

*** HeY! I just realized that Robert Gordon has his artwork up at the Coffee Works right now! (yep the same little coffee shop I had my work in, this past Feb.)

Well, that's it for todays long blog posting...
Have a great Friday everyone!

Had a nice dinner out tonight at our local Bistro....but gawd I ate too much.
Ahhh well, what's a hungry gal to do?

Have a nice evening all!

Catching Up Wich-Cha!

Here's our house...(jk) I wish...It's a house I drive past everyday, pretty nice huh? I just love the red roses. Sometimes the roses get growing so full that it only leavea about a foot of space to walk down!

I'm sitting here at my desk at work, eatting mini carrots that I'm dipping in low cal caesar salad dressing...:P yep, thats my fabulous lunch....oh! that and a diet pepsi :)

Last night I made Shrimp Tacos...they came out great! I took pics...but nothing is sized yet to show you. I also made some killer Margaritas to go with them :) I hope Kip will take me out to dinner tonight. It's been in the 100's outside...just too hot to cook.

I think this is the longest I've ever gone without posting ...What's it been... 3 days? Geez...well, I've been a busy Lolo.

I've been printing out and putting together art cards...I finally went to the Sac. State Bar Assoc. and picked up my 10 paintings that have been hanging down there for the past couple months. (I was almost three weeks late in doing that) Then I've been really busy at my normal 9-5pm (real world job) and also working on Andreas painting....hopefully tonight (or tomorrow) I think I will be finished with it. Just in the nick of time too- the cut off for entering it in the EBSQ Ripped Off Show is this Saturday! I'll show you guys all a progress shot tonight.

Well there's a bunch of things I want to share with you (but it'll have to wait til' tonight) Back to work for this human "bean."

Bye all!

Plugging away...

Well, I've been busy painting on Andrea's painting for the EBSQ Art Show, as well as printing out ton's of my Art Cards. Speaking of my cards did you guys see how Teresa displayed the set of cards she bought from me? Look! She found these magnet type frames and stuck them on her frig.

So...what are you all up to?

more....................

At lunchtime on Friday I went to drop off some art cards to "Swanberg's" and while I was there I bought these cute monkey cards. They came in this teanie little purse box.

Then on my way home from work there was this big wreck...A truck hit the Regional Transit bus overhang bar light thingie. (That's transportation tech talk) We were detoured all over the globe so I got home 30 minutes later :(

Then one last funny picture for your Saturday night.... Bye! Lo**

March!!

A big painting day for me...I MUST work on Andrea's painting today ( my second entry into the EBSQ Ripped Off Show) I will be ripping off one of Andreas stainglass wind chimes. This one I think... :)

Also Erikie...I will be going to the Post Office today to check on what I need to do about searching for your painting. :(

Have a great day everyone! Thanks for all your kind comments yesterday on Joe's painting!

Joe's Ripped Piece

It's done...here's my ripped off piece for the EBSQ Art Show. It's a combination of some of the elements from two of Joe Kephart's digital pieces. "Eve the New Board Game" and "Dorothy In Oz" It's acrylic, watercolor and colored inks.

Here's a far away shot: (It's on a 18" x 24" watercolor block)...which you can see started to peel away at the top. I hate these larger blocks just for that reason. Closer cropped view here. Anyway...What do you think?

I'm getting the new Adobe Creative Suite software installed here at work today...I'm so excited!

Ok, more later...have a great day :)

Art Trade

Look!! I traded Erikie this cool Plein Air oil painting of the Laguna Hills that she did, for my Red Orchid watercolor. I love your little foamcore holder thingie Erikie! Very clever-- I'll be getting a nice frame for it soon. Thanks again for doing the trade! That Plein Air exhibit looked wonderful...

I will show you all Joe's finished ripped piece tonight (ok Joe?) Are you done yet? No? Should I wait?---spill it...

I found Andrei Protsouk's artwork last night online. I love how he paints fingers :) I like the red ones near the bottom, especially the one called "Serve." Check out his prices!

Ok everyone busy day for me so more later hopefully! Have a good Tuesday. :)

I Love Lucy Kitchen

I went to the Antique Mall yesterday. I heard that a guy had rented the whole front section of the mall to display his Retro collection ... Check this out!

(So which girl is the mannequin ? ---jk)

All these items are for sale (expensive BTW) but I thought he did a great job in arranging everything. There's a livingroom, bedroom and a kitchen...wait til' you see this kitchen... :)

Isn't that cool? I love the red curved corner counters on each side. and the pink and grey dinette set. Hey Jenn! wouldn't that be perfect for your pink collection to be displayed on!? Then the floor design is fun too...anyway.

I wanted to buy this kite for my studio...(burry picture...sorry) too expensive though.

The only thing I did buy was this little gold glazed vase for my (collection) $5.00. It wasn't from the Retro guys stuff obviously...

Today I am going to be starting another painting for the EBSQ Ripped Off Art Show. It's a small one, because I have to finish it super fast! (I'm ripping off one of Andrea's Stained glass mobiles and painting it in watercolor. Should be fun?

Yes. I have finished Joe's painting (I think...) :)

It's gonna be another hot humid day in the mid 90's. My arms are already sticking to my desk as I'm typing this. (hate that)

I'm outta here. Don't forget to take a peek at Annies chalkware collection over here :)

Juxtapoz Ad!

Well, I am sure done with that work week! geez it was a long one...

Guess what I just got a few days ago? The newest Juxapoz Magazine! and this month the eMOMA Ad came out. There's my painting there (Girl and Panda)...along with Jeff Cohen's coffee cup and Marc Synder's Nail through the nose man...:)

(Hello Ray...are you there? See your painting in the ad?)

It's a great issue this month with a very cool article on Mark Parker's collection.

...and a 4 page article on Tim Biskup.

So today I will be painting and drawing on my Ripped piece for the EBSQ Art Show....it's ALMOST done... and no that's as close to the painting your gonna see until it's completed :P

I think I might go shopping today at a few antique shops around town, then I will be heading out to my parents house later to babysit their dog so they can go to a big party tonight. (The dog rips the house to pieces when they leave)...so I said I'd come over and keep ol' ClancyDog company :) Yes that little fur ball down there can do some major damage... :P

OH!!! and and my friend Diane will love this quiz. It's no surprise that I would flunk it... :P

Deco Face

Hi Everyone!
Isn't this a neat wall plaque? I bought from my Mother-In-Law when we used to share a booth at an Antique Mall. She and I had a space for about 5-6 years.

When she would leave town (every summer) to do Antique shows in the midwest, she would leave a few boxes of antiques with me, all priced up and ready to replenish our space when she was gone. I loved this because it was like Christmas going through those boxes of hers! I would get "first choice" of her goods --------and NO, I didn't get a family discount :(

Here's where it's hanging next to my computer in my studio.)

Annie and Jenn wanted to see my TexasWare Bowl Collection...It's (behind the cut as they say...)

This isn't all of them...but there you go.

Well gang...I'm off to get some painting done :)
Talk to you all tomorrow!!

EBSQ Live Tonight / Joe

Thank you Amie, for letting me cut and paste what you posted this morning about the EBSQ Live tonight.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a heads-up that EBSQ Live is tonight at 9pm EDT (6pm PDT):

We all love PhotoShop. We crop, re-size and lighten images with abandon. We even add filters. PhotoShop enables us to do so very, many wonderful things. Unfortunately, how to do all these wonderful things is a mystery to many of us. If much of PhotoShop is a mystery to you, EBSQ"s July's "LIVE!" is for you. Joseph Kephart (aka jozepo9) will be lifting the veil on PhotoShop and helping us expand our skills beyond cropping and re-sizing.

Joe Kephart currently resides in the Pacific Northwest with his family, Mr. Hand, fearless Pierre, Capt. Spanky and Max the wonder Pug.

LIVE! is open to members and non-members and we encourage all who are interested to attend. The evening starts at promptly at 9 PM EST so be sure to arrive a few minutes early.

CHAT LINK

Also, our darling Mr. Kephart is the artist of today's ebsqartoftheday!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congrats on the Art of the Day thingie too Joe! See you tonight!

Fisherman's Stew

Hey! wanna see what I made tonight for dinner? Yes you do! :) Even though it's 91 degrees outside right at this very moment, I decided to make... Fisherman's Stew!!!...via the Crock Pot O'Love. (recipe w/pictures follows) I know...pretty silly huh. Who wants soup on a hot summer day? I did!!

Here's the stuff for it:
1-28oz can of chopped, peeled tomatoes
1- 6oz. can Tomato Paste
2 cups water
2 cups dry white wine
1 medium onion chopped
1 medium green bell pepper (I left it out of mine because Kip can't deal them...)
3 celery ribs, chopped
2 garlic cloves (crushed through a press)
2 teas. dried basil
1 teas. dried thyme leaves
1 bay leaf
1/2 teas. salt and pepper
---------------------
Pinch of sugar
1/2 pound shelled and devined raw medium shrimp
1/2 pound small scallops
1 lb. halibut steak, skinned, boned and cut into 3/4" chunks
1 (4oz) can or jar mushroom stems and pieces or sliced mushrooms, rinsed and drained. **I used fresh mushrooms)
3 T Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

Put the first 12 ingredients into a large bowl, mix and dump into a crock pot.
Cook on low for 6 hours.

After the 6 hours is up, turn the crock pot to low, remove the bayleaf and add the pinch of sugar, the fish, stir and cover.

Ok. gang...I started my recipe a little late today so to hurry things along a bit during the last 30 mins. instead of using the crockpot on high...I transferred everything to a big pot on the stove and simmered it for 20 mins. It worked beautifully. :)

Here's the finished dish. Next time I will have some garlic bread with it too. Kip said it was awesome! (yea me)

Have a great Sunday night all!
Bon Appetit!--Lo**

Artworks Show

Hi everyone :)
Here are a few pictures from the Art Show Opening last night in Fair Oaks, CA at "The New Artworks Gallery"

Here's the gallery itself...it doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's very nice inside. That red car looks like one of those candied apples huh? That's Kip and his Mom walking into the joint.

Here's the inside... it was crowded (even though in my pictures it doesn't look that crowded) They had a nice table of food goodies to eat, wine, punch-- you know the typical stuff.

That's Kip standing there (below) staring at his painting...(jk) he was chatting with a lady :) Here's a close up of the Kipster's painting I'm pointing out in the picture. It's watercolor acrylic and pen & ink. Here a close up of the pen & ink part.

I took a picture of Tracy Lewis' Cow watercolor too "Bovine Bliss" Isn't it great? I hope you don't mind me posting a picture in here Tracy? You should have got an award for that one. Here...I'll give you the Lolo Award.

P.S. Erikie: Out my other studio window my view is kinda duddy see?

Well, that's about it for last nights evening.

Today it's another day of painting for me as well as going to the grocery store to buy the stuff to make a new crockpot recipe called Fisherman's Stew. (yes, I made another version called that--- but this one is like the West coast style cioppino or bouillabaisse. It looks very easy....we will see won't we?? :)

Have a good one....Lo**

Streets & Studio

Carrie (our Red Lord Amazon parrot) Says GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!

Carrie, will be turning 24 years old this September. I bought her when she was only three months old and I had to feed her soft mooshy food through a plastic container. Boy...that was ages ago.

Anyway changing topics: When I was sizing pictures the other night I came across a few street scenes. Here's a picture of the road I drive on to get to work. (I finally have a job that I don't have to drive on a freeway-yea!) All the streets are like this on the route I take...pretty nice huh? It feels like you are going through tree tunnels. Most of these trees are Elms and Modesto ash.

Here's another pic...

...and here's my studio this morning... I'm working on my Ripped piece for the EBSQ Art show, that I've been talking about for the last couple days. Can anyone figure out what that big (outboard motor) looking contraption is hooked to my drawing table? (no prizes...)

Anyway...not much else happening until tonight when we do the art gallery thing. I'll bring my camera naturally...so maybe I can show you the "art buzz" around Sacramento tonight :)

Have a great Saturday everyone-drive careful**

Another Version

I am still working on my painting for the EBSQ Ripped Show. That's just a little tidbit of it up there.

Actually I'm working on a second version of Joe's piece. Why? Well, I changed part of the background on the first one (should have left it alone...) But anyway, I wasn't happy with how it came out so I'm doing another. :)

Yesterday at work I got a brand new computer...it is so nice! A flat screen monitor too. I'm still gettivg useid to the kerybopard thoughj. (lol--sorry)

Tomorrow is the Art Show reception at the New Artworks Gallery in Fair Oaks. Kip, his Mom and I will be going out to that show first to see our three paintings that were accepted...as well as say Hi to Tracy's Cow painting. Tracy aren't you going to the reception? :)

Then we will come back downtown, closer to the galleries where we live and cruise through a few more that are open for the Second Saturday Art Walks.

Hey through the cool site that Kitty just got done designing for Raoul...I found this guys illustrations that I thought were so cool...His name is Richard Borge check them out if your interested.

ok...so tell me what are your plans are for the weekend? (and no spermie talk either k?) :)

6th of July

Happy Tuesday Everyone!
Early afternoon on the forth of July I went with some friends to a little parade in downtown Clarksburg, CA. It's like a little Mayberry town. I took Flat Tanner along with me, and Lil' Miss M was kind enough to hold him for the camera. (Even though it looks like she thought he had cooties or something- lol!)

The kids that ride on the tractors and firetrucks throw candy out to the people along the parade route. This kid was out of candy I guess. (note empty box)

Here are a couple local kids waiting to start up their car for the parade....I think they were still deciding who was going to drive.

Flat Tanner also got a look at the official Clarksburg fire truck...

and went on a ride along with one of the cool-guy cars that rolled down the street in the parade....

After the parade we meet over at our friend's B & D's house for a BBQ. It was a big crowd (17 adults, 11 kids) My Tootie Baked Beans were a hit. :)

I think the pool had a foot less water in it at the end of the day...with all the freakazode jumps & cannonballs these boys did for the camera (big hams) The weather was hot (90+) just how it should be.

One of the boys flipped a pool chair upside down and made a slide out of it...Which I thought was very clever...

We must have had over an hours worth of fireworks!! Very loud and very smoky. cough cough... But fun! :P

Well, it's back to work for me, but I'm happy it's a short week. Talk to you all later. I hope you had a fun weekend too! Bye!!

Day After the 4th

Check THIS CAR out I took a bunch of cool car pics at this little forth of July Parade yesterday! Isn't that paint job just amazing?

I slept like crap last night...got up at 2:30 fliddle farted around for a half hour trying to shake off a nightmare...then got up at 8:30am and have been sizing pictures that I took yesterday as well as painting. I'm almost done with my EBSQ Ripped off Piece of Joe Kephart's. (Hear that Joe?) I'm liking it too :) It's now a combination of two of his digital pieces....just certain elements of each.

More...........

Pretty sunflower pic I took yesterday (big too!!) The center was a foot across! No, I'm not kidding.

Oops gotta go!!!---hopefully more later!

Baked Beans

Here's the Baked Bean recipe that I just finished making to take to the 4th of July BBQ tommorow.
**I'll cook them right before we go.

Enjoy the pictures (Flat Tanner helped me out in the kitchen...are you envious Mr. Hand?)

HOT AND SMOKY BAKED BEANS
Serve these hot or at room temperature.
6 bacon slices
1 1/2 cups chopped onion
1 1/4 cups purchased barbecue sauce
3/4 cup dark beer
1/4 cup mild-flavored (light) molasses
3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
3 tablespoons (packed) dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
4 to 6 teaspoons minced canned chipotle chilies
6 15- to 16-ounce cans Great Northern beans, drained

Chopped fresh parsley

Preheat oven to 350°F. Cook bacon in large skillet over medium heat until crisp. Transfer to paper towels and drain. Transfer 2 1/2 tablespoons bacon drippings from skillet to large bowl. Finely chop bacon; add to bowl. Add onion and next 7 ingredients to bowl and whisk to blend. Whisk in 4 to 6 teaspoons chipotle chilies, depending on spiciness desired. Stir in beans. Transfer bean mixture to 13 x 9 x 2-inch glass baking dish. Bake uncovered until liquid bubbles and thickens slightly, about 1 hour. Cool 10 minutes.

Sprinkle with parsley and serve.

Serves 8 to 10.

OOPS! I almost forgot to add the bacon drippings...so thats what's I'm doing in the picture next to my action shot...

Well, that's all there is too it! (Note: I didn't find the Chipotle chiles at the tiny store I go to, so I just got the fire roasted Ortega brand.)

Sat. News...

Good Saturday to you all :)
Yesterday I went to lunch with friends at a popular restaurant here in town, (Flat Tanner accompanied me) Jamies Bar and Grille. He had a nice visit with the patrons...and even sweet talked his way to the back of the bar to help Christy. :)

I will be going to the store soon for the stuff for those Hot & Smoky Baked Beans that I'm making for tomorrows bbq, but in the meantime, I found the exact recipe online! So here it is if you want to get the ingredients and instructions now. You know? I'm not sure I will be showing you step by step pics of how to make this since all it really entails is dumping everything in a bowl and stirring :)

Hey! Other cool news...I got a call from my friend Michele Swanberg, and she wants me to bring by more of my art cards to sell in her shop! AND, she gave my one of my cards to a greeting card rep that really loved them too (and handles a bunch of greeting card lines!) :) So I will be following up on that soon!

Oh! Here's our yellow haired girlie girl LilJif (Jennifer) Aint she cute? Glad you had fun playing with the ilustmaker thing! Boring Party Trivia: Did you know that "Jiffy" is an actual unit of time for 1/100th of a second?

----------------------------------------------
To answer Sheila's question last week (sorry) That Vyco board cover you can buy at art stores, it is pale green (or grey) on one side and cream on the other. (they make a translucent one now for light tables!) It's also called Borco... Here's what to look for in the store.
----------------------------------------------

I will be painting most the day, then going to the store like I said for the bean stuff... AND doing some yard work. So, I hope you all have a great Saturday, and I'll talk with you all later.

Scoochie

Here's a progress shot of the EBSQ Ripped off I'm doing of Joe's piece. Why is it such a tiny picture you're asking? Well, it's because we decided not to show each other until we are done. ;)

Anyway, I worked on it last night as well as tracked down this Baked Bean recipe that I want to make for a 4th of July Party Kip and I have been invited to. I've made this for a number of years---it's really good so I'll post it on Sat. if you wanna see how to make them ok? (You can make them a day ahead too which is nice) It was from Bon Appetite Magazine, July 1999.

Here's your pretty flower shot for the day. (dahlias) I bought these at Trader Joe's the other day to cheer me up. They drank up ALL the water so fast that the next day they were dead...Wah! anyway, at least they are immortalized in my picture :)

And to end todays post I took the "What Sign of Affection are You" Quiz....awww...that IS me. :)
