I just came across this painting while adding some new pictures to my website last night.
I did a couple years ago...it's 18" x 24" It's one of the first pieces where I added my pen details to the background. Looks pretty nice now, but I remember at the time I wasn't happy with the "idea" I knew nothing when it came to archieving pictures of my artwork too...so I don't even have a high res. version of this puppy :(---and yes, it's gone...sold to Kip's Aunt in Colorado.

Yesterday I went to the Art store because they are having a month long sale...(back to school and all) I picked out a normal steel ruler with a cork back because my old one got a big dent in the side. But when the art store gal saw the one I was buying she talked me into trying a different kind.
I know Yawn...I'm blogging about a ruler.
K here's the scoop on it...it's made by Alumicolor. It has a black rubber backing strip and it is just wonderful! They said it won't warp like the steel ones do sometimes...talk about staying put--and it does! I know it's just a ruler...but good tools are kinda fun to find so I thought I'd pass that along. I got the 24" one and it was under $10.00.
Then I got a tube of Peacock Blue watercolor paint. (Holbein) it's nice!! very staining though. It's a bright bright turquoise....and a ** star rating, which isn't very permanent, but I thought I'd mix it with more perm blues anyway.
This Saturday is the W.A.S.H. Art Show. Kip and I will be going to that as well as running around to some more second saturday art show openings. At the ToyRoom Gallery next weekend they will be showing artists from the "Short Center North" (a center for adults with developmental disabilities) over 200 pieces I just found out!! I can't wait :)
Speaking of art shows...I never did get out to the CA. State Fair Show :(
ok All I must get ready for work now.
Have a good day!

OOOOOOOOOOOOO put the moth on Ebay...Please please please
ooops did not read all the post due to drool factor
Lucky Kip's Aunt!!! That piece is sooo LRH, oozing with elegance! Hmm I should get a ruler like that then maybe I can draw a straight line!
Isn't it amazing how much we learn in a a year or so when we thought we knew so much then?? I love all my 100% scans of my old art sssheeessh they are bad scans altogether!
lol Ray!! Do I need to buy you a BOX of kleenex? (jk)
Erikie! You'd just fall in love with this ruler. Gawd, that sounds lame :(
Posted by: Lo on September 9, 2004 02:08 PMWow....Moth rocks!!!! Oh..the ruler does also....I know what you mean about having cool tools. This is going to sound kinda dumb....but I have this rubber mallet....and seriously...that thing is so useful! I mean...you wouldn't think so...but it does. K...I'm just rambling on.
Hope you and Kip have fun at the galleries Saturday. Hey..tomorrow is Fri! yeah!!! Where's my rubber mallet??!! ah...never mind.

Posted by: Jozepo on September 9, 2004 09:07 PMHi Lori! Yes...I've been a lurker for awhile...slithering in and out of your blog! Thought I'd better pop in to redeem myself and say hi.
I just had to comment on how gorgeous your butterfly watercolor is. The pen details are amazing.
So...hello from Colorado! Have a nice day in sunny CA!

I think this old moth is one of the most stunning things you've shown us, Lori. Just beautiful ~ the colors, the detailed anatomy, the whimsy ~ wow. perfect!
And tools: my vote is for a wooden chopstick. It is useful for stirring, coaxing toast out of the toaster, many other things ~ truly a marvel, the humble chopstick. :o}
Posted by: KQ on September 10, 2004 12:11 PMStunning!!!! Absolutely Stunning!! Lolo.
Gives the insect world another dimension of beauty....
That is some lucky Auntie to have that butterful hanging on her wall.
Posted by: Edee on September 10, 2004 02:14 PMWow!! I got two lurkers with that moth painting yeah me!! Hi Linda (again) and I remember you KQ...or at least I think you've commented before? Right? Well, thanks for your comments both of you (all of you!)
Hi Joe and Edee!
Joe, rubber mallet? (now I want one--don't I? lol) why is it rubber? I mean what's it for? Is it rubber so it doesn't dent soft wood? (Help me out here...someone? anyone?)
Posted by: Lo on September 10, 2004 02:36 PMHi Lolo: Just checking in after being down for a week with the flu. Did I catch it from you via your blog??? Weren't you sick a week or two ago? Is that what they call an internet virus???? (ha ha)(jk) :)
How did you do the pen details on the moth? Draw the design in pencil, then paint the big areas of black and around your pencil designs (so they would look white-on-black) with a paint-brush and India? Just gotta know! I love talking tools and techniques so no, you didn't bore anybody about the ruler!
Love the moth and the way the black pen details contrast with the wc's. That's one of my favorite combinations. Hope you do more of those...
Happy weekend!

P.S. Haven't found a single Texasware bowl this summer...poo. But I'm still looking...
Oooo... Lurkers. Like flames to a moth. ...or something like that <g>!
