Boy she looks mad huh? Well the weekend is over, so maybe thats why?
For the past few weeks her hangout has been at our fence. There are two fences kinda sandwiched together (ours and our neighbors) So little mice and lizards and critters like that live between them. It drives Nut crazy because she hears them scurring around but can't get em. Ah ha! Thats why she looks pissed in this picture!
This past weekend I was so wild with framing for that art show that I never did make it out to the Bead show which I wanted to do. (Sorry for never calling you back Valerie) I guess I didn't need anymore beads. :(
The weather being cool yesterday up til the afternoon, was such a nice change. Made me think about having a fire in the fireplace again :) (Got wood?) I know that prolly sounds silly since it is still August....but anytime the weather turns cool (in Calif.) I think soup, fire in the fireplace, B budget horror film on TV and comfy jammies!!! lol! ;)
Other stuff:
My Dad found this old woodblock I carved in 1971. I know! it's almost an antique! lol! You can see that my style hasn't changed much....in loving patterns and designs and such. :)

After I do Rays commission I'm not going to accept anymore C's. I have some ideas for new paintings and I want to promote myself a little more, redo parts of my website and follow up on some of the people interested in my art cards etc. With commissions (as some of you artists out there know) can pile up on you and stress you out ...making the artwork look forced. I hate that feeling, and it's not fair to the client. Don't get me wrong...I love that people like my art enough to want me to paint something for them, and who knows maybe this will bite me in the butt later, but right now I think I will graciously decline them :/
Ok, I must MARCH! and get ready for work. Have a great Monday! and remember... Smile alot, eat something green and don't trip. (That's my motto anyway)

Posted by Lori at August 23, 2004 07:18 AMLo! Long time no see! Ok well yes, I do pop in here and look at your gorgeous stuff every day or two, I guess I'm just shy? LOL :P~ (that's codeword for lazy...)
PHENOMENAL pic of Nutty, that is just super cool. You were trying to get my attention weren't you? hehe!
Yes, your love of patterns and intricate designs has been with you for quite a while! I admire you for your creativity with these patterns, they are so imaginative!
I think every artist takes breaks from commissions yea? I know I get commissions in spurts without having to pull their availability, I seem to have a good natural balance so they don't feel like that's all I do. But you, ahh I can understand why they might make you feel bound, you have all of these patterns in your head you need to get onto paper!!
xoxoxoxxo
Nutty you scared me! Boy she looks determined, kinda like her Mom, strong determination ;)
I'm sure you will do well on the WASH show. Those Dahlias are simply stunning plus in those dimensions I bet the people will go ooooohhh ahhhhhh!
Good point about commissions tending to undermine our usual style. I completely agree. I sure feel bad for Susy lol Did you know she only accepted commissions from you and me? Yeah we da loved ones Lolo! =) Anyway, your decision not to accept commish may change and it's ok. I didn't do portrait commishes for 10 years. I'm thinking it's just about time for another 10 year break hehehe
I'm excited about the direction you are taking with your art! I guess we need to share your art with a wider audience. After all anybody who can do a woodblock design in '71 like that should not be kept a secret =D Happy Monday!!!! xox
Posted by: erikie parikie on August 23, 2004 11:04 AMThanks for the explaination on the comissions, I know after I got my art cards I was so excited to have a girlie girl that I asked for a comission... I do love my cards and I have selfishly decided to frame them and hang them in my family room on my "book wall" when it is all done. Remodeling never seems to be done. I will send a picture when they have made it to their home on the wall.
Great picture of the cat... looks so much like my Sophie I was considering making it my background...

Posted by: Lo on August 23, 2004 12:56 PMYou know I could be talked into just buying some art on Ebay from you instead of a commission. You know I love all your work. I never want to force your artistic hand, or feet for that matter.:)
I think your art is better when it is not forced.
I will gladly take the pressure off you if you would put some art out where I can buy it :)
Your biggest fan

I'd like to see the wood block print, it looks like it is really nice!
Great picture of the mad cat, pretty eyes on that kitty.
The cat is scaring me...geez.....I think that cat would kick Max's butt. The weather here has turned cooler also. I'm thinking pants, crock pot, fireplace and balloon animals. You have to love those inflatable little guys....sigh..
Hey....that wood block is pretty wicked! I have to agree with Erika...anybody who can do a wood block design in "71" like that should not be kept a secret. and I was kinda young...but I know what was going on in 71. Oh ya...hippies everywhere..doing their hippie thing. :) Sorry. lol!
K...I got your motto down....I will follow it...lets see...eat something you trip over...smile at something green...ah...dont trip over something you smile at....ah..nevermind.
