Posted by: erikie on August 4, 2004 10:20 AMHi Lolo and Bloggers: Hey... what printers do you all use and like? I looked back in your previous posts Lo and saw that you used an Epson 960 to print your cards. I need to get a new printer soon and would FINALLY like to get one that would do a good job duplicating my watercolors for greeting cards - right now I'm using an HP DeskJet 1120C :/ Wondering what everyone else is using out there? What's on your wish list? Anyone have an Epson Stylus Photo 2200? How about papers? I know I can't afford to do all my cards on photo paper, what else is everyone using? Have I asked ENOUGH QUESTIONS yet? :) :) :)
Hope to hear from y'all.
P.S. Lolo - noticed you used your Texasware bowl again in your photos. :) Happy food!
Annie,
Yes I use the Epson 960 Printer. It does a great job for what I got it for...but the draw backs (IMHO) with this model are:
1.) Extremely slow printing
2.) You need to use Epson papers for best color results
3.) It will only accept standard size paper (no oversized sheets like 11" x 17"
4.) You can't use the nice Epson Watercolor paper with it. (Not sure why...but it just says you shouldn't)
5.) The Ink cartridges for the 960 are hard to find in the local computer stores (compared to the Epson 2200.
My Tip*** Just make sure whatever printer you buy it's the type with the 7 separate ink cartridges (2 blacks, cyan, lt. cyan, magenta, lt. magenta, and yellow. (And stock up on the lt. magenta ink cartridge because the stores always run out of that one. I was told it's because portrait photographers proofs eat up this ink color the most (for the subtle flesh tones I guess?)
My suggestion? Get the Epson 2200 if you can afford it :)

Posted by: Lo on August 4, 2004 02:31 PMI am really impressed with Lolo's cards and the quality of images she has. I have an Epson 2200. However, I've only printed my works from canvas so my scans picked up some odd highlights from the brush strokes and canvas textures. This uses Epson canvas and watercolor papers and oversize 13x19 Epson papers. But let me tell you what a guzzler it is! I think I've printed 4 oversized images and I know after one more print, I will need to get more light magenta. ugh! This is especially bad because my first two were rejects, the nozzles were clogged because I bought the printer a year ago, but didn't really use it until last week. The inks work best with Epson Premium papers because of the chemicals. So it's really high-end SPENDING lol! I think it's recognized in the photography industry. Am I glad I got one? Umm my jury is still out on that but it sure cost me a pretty penny at Fry's. Good luck Annie!
Posted by: erikie on August 4, 2004 04:01 PMHey, thanks Lo and Erikie! Wow... lots of things I didn't think of. Especially the ink guzzling, which is one of the reasons I wanted to ditch my old DeskJet 1120C. Lo - how many sheets of your cards do you think you print with the 960 before you need new ink? The blacks on your cards are so deep, I would guess you don't get too many prints before needing new ink. How about those little photo printers... does anybody use them for printing art cards?
THANKS for the info folks!
Night all,
annie from mich
Oh Geez Annie ummm...I'm not sure but maybe 20-25 sheets (8.5 x 11') of art cards that have alot of dense black before the black runs out? Thats pretty good I think?
Posted by: Lo on August 4, 2004 09:23 PMHi Lo: Yes, that is pretty good (20-25 sheets)... I think it's actually a little better than my HP 1120C, but your prints are MUCH, much better. We're off to Best Buy tomorrow to go printer shopping. Buying a new printer makes me *-N-E-R-V-O-U-S-* (shake, shake) - if you make a mistake and HATE your printer, you just have to learn to live with it. Yuck! I usually come home and ponder it and research it before I make the "Big Move" and actually get one though.
Tanks mucho for the info guys!
