Here's some of the things I bought today at the Antique paper show. The large dog and cat pieces were the most expensive. They both had advertisements on the back for Bogue's Soap.

Anyway, I got a lot of Victorian Scraps

A couple kids books, my favorite being "The Runaway Pancake!" It starts out, "Once upon a time a big round cook lived with a long thin cat." so just by reading that, you know it's a GOOD READ right?

I also got a few animal scraps-mostly monkeys. (oooh Puppy dogs Leigh!)

And this neat 9" x 12" portfolio folder thing. I don't know why I got it...lol!

It was a fun day! I was there for 4 hours. I don't think I'd better go back tomorrow because I spent to much moo-la today.
Kip made a nice fire so I'm going to sign off now and enjoy it with him. Have a nice evening.
OXOX,
Lolo
Oh what wicked taste you have. The runaway pancake is pretty funny. Love it all!
Can't you go back tomorrow and buy more????? Ok, be quiet now Joe.

Posted by: Joe on January 17, 2004 07:34 PMYou know, it's really sad when you start noticing your childhood things are now being sold at "antique" shows. I loved my "The Runaway Pancake" book.
Do you have plans for the Victorian scraps beyond just collecting them? Perhaps using them in a collage or in your book project?
Posted by: Ann on January 17, 2004 11:26 PMI love all the animal scraps...I love monkeys too. So cool. Alrighty...next time you go I will paypal you some money and you can go shopping for me. How fun !!!
Posted by: Leigh on January 17, 2004 11:30 PMI never would have remembered that I used to have The Runaway Pancake until I saw that cover - instant memory! This stuff is very cool - can't wait to see what you do with it.
Posted by: Stefani on January 18, 2004 06:18 AMI feel so deprived! I never had the Runaway Pancake when "I" was a kid-- Wah. Well now I do. I am looking for a childhood book my mom used to read to me (over and over)...maybe someone will remember this one?
I'm pretty sure it was called "What Happened To George" it was a small book, by Golden Pubplishers maybe? It was about a pig that ate too many doughnuts. He keep eating them and wouldn't mind his mother to stop. (Now, I understand why my Mom read it to me--grrrr) Anyway, he got fatter and fatter, so fat that finally he blew up! (Nice story huh?)
I know I'm not just making this book up, because my Mom remembers it too. Yes, I've asked he many times why that was her book of choice to read to me.
Ah well. Let me know if that books rings any bells for anyone? :)
Plans for the paper stuff? Maybe including it a collage---or and altered book Ann. Don't know yet.

Actually, it’s not a Little Golden Book, but it’s about the same size:
Author, Engebretson, Betty.
What Happened to George.
Publishers: NY & San Francisco: Rand McNally & Co. 1947 12mo.
Maybe this will help you find a copy?
Jenny!! I Love You!!! Thank You Thank you!!!
Lolo
Sweet flowers and childrens faces
my heart is going pitty pat.
Monkeys - quite Victorian but I have never gotten over my intense fear of Monkeys with no tails....
My very first Cinema experience was The Planet of the Apes with my mama and my auntie we sat in the red velvet lined balcony of the Aztex 3 in San Antonio Texas. I was utterly terrified of monkeys after that...
*grin*
Posted by: Lili on January 18, 2004 04:47 PMNo probelm Lori,

I was trying to find the ACTUAL book for sale for you but unfortunately that didn't come up in any of my searches. maybe someone else will have better luck?? THAT person should get the artcards! LOL

Ok Jenny, ...It'll be my quest for 2004!
Posted by: Lori on January 18, 2004 07:51 PMQuite a haul Lori! I pray that I never find out when the antique shows are around me! I'm still very very impressed with last year's haul too that was a big one for the price! That portfolio will come in handy too I'm sure ;)
I'll keep my eye out for your book. I haven't had much luck with the ornament but I haven't given up!

Isn't it amazing how we crave those graphic reminders of childhood...I finally found a favorite childhood book on ebay for almost nothing and got it for Christmas!!! Now I just have a sandpail to find. Just curious...anyone
...I am wondering how many of us are 40-something?
Wonderful finds!!! I can't wait to see how you put it all together Lo! I know by looking at all of this that I would love to go shopping with you. We would spend far too much money and giggle a lot. ;)
Ok now here's my childhood memory. I had a blue bunny, his fur was short and curly and soft, but it was stiff too, with whisps of lighter shades in it. He had pink nylon material over his ears, and mine had a denim patch on the tip of one of his ears because that plastic thing they used back then wore thru the tip.
I wan my bunnnyyyyyyyy!
Posted by: Leanne on January 19, 2004 08:47 AMSorry about your "poo" day, but it looks like you got some play-pretties to cheer yourself up! I think I'm post-poo now...seems like a lot of people are dealing with the doldrums over the past couple of weeks. Have a great day! :-)
Posted by: teresa on January 19, 2004 09:10 AMI saw that Erika! "What Happened to George" was popular one I guess. It sure made an impression on me.
Yes Robin, I'm 40 something. :)
Leanne, I think if we gigggled we'd be kicked out because of it's kind of a "shhh library atmosphere"
It's actually pretty deadly inside these shows. No bright pretty colors, just a big auditorium with tables and tables of postcards and lot's of old musty-ness floatin' around. You've gotta dig through the crap to find the good treasures.
Posted by: Lori on January 19, 2004 11:07 AM~~raising hand~~ 40-something here too. (very late 40-something...sniff, sniff)
Posted by: Ann on January 19, 2004 11:46 AMYou *have* heard that 40 is the new 30 right?
~hehe
I am exactly 40 years old a year of the rabbit baby.
