This maple just gets more "red and luminous!"
We'll chat more at lunch...

Absolutely gorgeous! I'm convinced I need to get a bigger maple than my bonsai. What particular maple is this Lolo? Also 2 years ago I was looking for a dogwood plant but they told me they don't bloom in warm weather. You don't seem to have a problem, do you? I love their subtle scent.

This is your typical "Acer palmatum atropurpureum" (Red Japanese Maple):)
and yes, I have three Dogwoods and they all bloom fine in warm weather (maybe not as much as other cooler climates?) This year 2 got very burnt with the 10 straight-100 degree plus days we had. I hope I don't lose them.
Posted by: Lori on November 10, 2003 11:07 AMThanks Lolo...now there's a pink and a white dogwood? Do you have your dogwood in a container too and how old is it? Also how long have you had that gorgeous maple? Hmmm I want a wisteria too. It's gonna be an expensive spring lol!
Posted by: erikie parikie on November 10, 2003 07:26 PMYes. Erika, There's a pink, white and a red Dogwood. The one that is in the ground is about 6 years old the 2 in containers maybe 4-5 years?
The maple is abut 7 years old... guessing. I actually bought it at a yard sale!
I have a wisteria in a container next to the front door. They do great but takes 3-4 years (for me anyway) to produce blooms.

Posted by: Lori on November 10, 2003 07:59 PMI did pretty good with my wisteria that I planted in the ground which bloomed in the same year, remember the pic of Moosie with the Barney Porcupine? :) That was in Albuquerque though. Well maybe if I go to a different nursery the seller won't be Mr. Negativo about dogwoods lol. My gosh Lolo you take the cake for patience on your plants blooming! One thing for sure you've given me a new lease on gardening since you've shown me it's totally possible to have a healthy garden in containers!
